That's right! $3 is how much it cost us to re-produce an inspired, yet more organic knock-off of an item from Crate & Barrel that we absolutely adore. Read what we used and how we did it, and view the gallery below... The mid-century modern lines and clean, architectural design of the $99.95 Crossroads wall art from Crate & Barrel is one of our favorites. We decided to re-interpret the Crossroads in a slightly more organic direction by using natural feather-weight hollow bamboo reeds and jute string. We purchsed 3 packs of them for $1 each from the Dollar Tree store in Rockville, MD. They are dark olive brown in color and were left unchanged. Our finished wall hanging is 63" wide x 50" tall, slightly larger in dimensions than the inspiration piece. The jute string came from our craft box. This project was made more difficult by our decision to NOT use any adhesives. Keeping the shape of the design was difficult until we figured out that we could could use dress maker pins (straight pins) to hold everything together while we hand tied each and every knot, then remove the pin. It took us a while to get into a groove, but we settled in and watched Napoleon Dynamite; we finished by the end of the movie.
